Project overview
This project involved structural extension and interior renovation of an existing residential/commercial building in Perungudi, Chennai. The work included building additional rooms/floors, plastering, slab casting, waterproofing, parapet wall construction, and major surface finishing. Skilled masonry, concreting, and reinforcement detailing were carried out on the terrace and upper levels. Interior surfaces were reworked with fresh plastering, putty, and painting preparation. The scope focused on enhancing usable space, structural durability, and aesthetic appeal while integrating new features seamlessly with the old structure.
Challenge
-
Working in a Congested Residential Area
Limited space for material storage and movement made coordination of labor, scaffolding, and equipment more difficult.
-
Height & Safety Constraints
External plastering and parapet wall work at higher levels required secure, custom-built scaffolding amidst electrical cables and tight access.
-
Structural Tie-in with Existing Building
Ensuring stability during slab extensions and wall construction demanded careful integration with the old structure without causing damage.
-
Weather and Surface Preparation
Rainwater stagnation and uneven surfaces on the terrace slowed down curing, plastering, and waterproofing work.
-
Labor and Material Handling at Upper Levels
Transporting bricks, cement, and water to the terrace and upper floors required manual lifting and constant supervision.
